Brief Introduction of National Bio Energy Co., Ltd.
National Bio Energy Co., Ltd. (NBE) is a company specialized in comprehensive development and utilization of biomass energy. By introducing the international advanced direct-fired biomass power generation technology and relying on abundant biomass resources in China, NBE has invested and constructed many biomass power generation projects and extended the biomass industry chain by manufacturing and processing biomass fuels and recycling the biomass ashes.
NBE was registered and incorporated on July 7, 2005, with registered capital of RMB 2 billion, jointly by Dragon Power Co., Ltd., which contributed RMB 1.5 billion accounting for 75% of total registered capital, and State Grid Shenzhen Energy Development Group Co., Ltd., which contributed RMB 500 million accounting for 25% of the total registered capital.
At present, NBE has obtained approval for its 40 projects, which are located respectively in Shandong province, Hebei province, Henan province, Jiangsu province, Heilongjiang province, Jilin province, Liaoning province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Hubei province, Anhui province, Shanxi province, etc. Among them, 12 projects with 324MW installed power generation capacity have been put into production; 7 projects are in progress with 84MW installed capacity under construction.
As NBE’s first national model project in direct-fired biomass power generation, Shandong Shanxian 1×30MW biomass generator unit has been put into operation on Dec. 1, 2006. The project established a precedent in direct-fired biomass power generation field in China and created a new approach to benefit farmers. With designed annual energy output of 160 million kWh, the project produced 229 million kWh in fact in 2007, achieving the world advanced level and creating a miracle in biomass power generation field in China.
Heilongjiang Wangkui biomass power generation project invested by NBE is the first biomass generating project with corn stalks as the main fuels in the world. Starting operation on Nov. 16, 2007, Wangkui project has created a new approach to comprehensively utilize corn stalks and other yellow straws produced in northeastern and central China.
NBE has always been promoting the construction of biomass development and utilization industrial chain by cooperating with relevant enterprises and establishing specialized companies. NBE has also achieved a lot in utilizing the ashes produced by burning straws to produce and process compound fertilizers, such as biomass potash fertilizer.
Cooperating with the State Forestry Administration, NBE widely promoted planting energy forest and energetically developed forest-electricity integration projects. NBE has established a good cooperative relation with Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences by signing cooperation agreements, promising to carry out wide-range cooperation in research, development and manufacturing of fuels collecting, processing, storing and transporting equipment. NBE has also established the NBE-CAS Biomass Energy Research & Development Center by cooperating with the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The R&D center will, through joint study in specific project, provide technical support and make perspective studies for NBE’s comprehensive development and utilization of biomass resources.
Besides, NBE is also carrying on international cooperation actively in biomass resources development and utilization. NBE has signed cooperation agreements with Härjedalens Municipal Government and Härjedalens Miljöbränsle AB and established NBE Sweden AB, a company jointly owned by the three parties, which has made significant breakthrough in research and development of biomass cellulose ethanol. NBE has also actively participated in international CDM (clean development mechanism) trading and has made a substantial progress.
NBE’s biomass power business is highly concerned and appreciated by CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Wu Bangguo, the chairman of NPC Standing Committee, once wrote an inscription for NBE, saying “Strengthening Sino-Danmark friendship by developing clean energy and promoting biomass power generating technology”. The prime minister Wen Jiabao once instructed: “Development and utilization of biomass energy should be supported; the approach and experience of State Grid Corporation of China deserve our attention.” In 2007, because of the NBE’s pioneering work in biomass generating field in China and outstanding contribution in energy saving and environmental protection, NBE was appraised as one of the Top 50 Green Energy Enterprises in China and was recommended as a candidate of International Resource and Environment Award.
NBE’s development goal: build a circulating biomass system and extend biomass industry chain with renewable energy as main business and biomass power generation as the basis; accelerate the comprehensive development and utilization of biomass resources and speed up the development of agriculture-forest-electricity integration system; endeavor to become a world-class renewable energy enterprise.
